Review on INJINJI toe socks

"INJINJI socks - no more tube socks. PERIOD."

This is the 2nd time I put on a toe socks. The first time was a cheapalak one that was purchased at one of those shops at the mall. The experience wasnt good as I have difficulties putting it on especially aligning all my toes to the toe pockets of the socks. Eventually I gave up wearing it as I found it too cumbersome and time consuming. Wasting a lot of time just to wear a pair of toe socks.

Then lately I stumbled on INJINJI and I decided to bring the toe shocks into Malaysia. Before recommending and selling it to my customers, I myself have to try it our first to get a first hand experience. There are two version of the toe socks namely MICRO cut (ankle level) and MINI-CREW cut (above the ankle). I chooses the micro cut as I personally are more fond of wearing socks that are just a cut at or below my ankle.

To my surprise when I put the socks on, it was extremely easy. All I need is to align my toes correctly into the toe pockets and slip the socks onto my feet. Pull up the socks, make some minor adjustment and wah lah I have a pair of comfy socks wrapping my beloved feet. The feeling is like wearing a pair of glove versus wearing a pair of mittens. Walking around with it gave me the feeling that all my toes can move freely and not wrapped tightly as compare to a pair of tube socks.

Then I am off to my track workout for some speedwork. Throughout the workout, INJINJI wrapped around my feet comfortably. As this was a speed session, I dont feel any heat generated from the socks at all. Hence it reduces any form of friction that eventually can lead to blisters. The toe pockets actually played a very important role by shielding each single toe from rubbing against each other (eliminating skin contact) to prevent chafing that can lead to blisters (a very common problem with lots of runners). The socks also feels very light and gave me the feeling of running sockless. I will give INJINJI another test in a longer run like 20k and I believe it will pass with flying colors.

After my workout session, I believe INJINJI is the sock that I will using in all my future races.
NO MORE tube socks, PERIOD !!!!!

As I mentioned earlier, putting on and wearing INJINJI is not very difficult and is not time consuming, so triathletes you dont lose valuable time during your discipline transition if you uses INJINJI.

INJINJI ~ Toe Socks

I am bringing this brand of socks into Malaysia. What make it so different is instead of the normal tube socks that we normally wear, INJINJI is actually a toe sock which have protection on all our toes. This provide better comfort to our feet and also have the possibilities to eliminate blister problems on our toes.

The key design principal in the development of INJINJI was to create the best possible interface that allowed the entire foot to perform naturally and freely inside our shoes, just like being barefoot. Everything about the conventional tube sock works against your feet’s natural form and function. Consider the difference between gloves and mittens.

I am testing the market here in Malaysia and hopefully our runners are eductated enuf to spend and invest a fair amount on a quality socks especilly to those who are into high performance sports like running an Ultra, an IronMan race, a full and half marathon and even in the triathlon races.

Do contact me (Choi) at cchoi_2020@yahoo.com or 0193289083 if you are interested to know more about INJINJI.

A date with the SINISTER

I had a date with the SINISTER this morning for a 6k run. While I always wanted to get a pair of light weight trainer cum racer for myself, I watched a video pre-launch of this shoe sometime in mid 2007. The video and the preview got me really excited about the SINISTER at that time.

As I was not in a hurry to get it and my pace is not as fast as I wanted, I can actually afford to wait for its customer release in USA sometime during the August time frame. It reaches the Malaysia soil sometime in Sept/Oct period and I decided to purchase it since the distributor that I am dealing with got the stock and is able to ship it down to KL.

Street price of the shoe is RM280 after discount and I would said this is a wonderful light weight trainer for me after today's workout. The color of metallic blue was also very striking and give me the roar of a light weight trainer cum racer. Weighing just a bit over 10 oz, the SINISTER is the ideal light weight trainer cum racer for me in running future 10ks and 21ks, and maybe taking it for a stroll in a 42k race!!!!

Although the shoe does not look too cushy, but once I ran in it I actual felt the solid cushioning as I landed on the tarmac. It gives me just the right cushioning for my run and just not add extra weight to it. With the introduction of Flexion Ride Technology, it actually gives me the lift off in a very much more responsive manner. The SINISTER also gives a good fit feeling and does not have too much unwanted space in between my feet and the shoe itself. That is actually extremely important for a light weight trainer cum racer to give one that good fit feeling and the responsive transition from the heel to toe. I will definitely take the shoe out for a longer run (20k) to test out how it perform and its responsiveness when I am on the road longer. But I have this confidence that it will still pass with flying colors.

Overall I am very happy with the SINISTER and will dare to make recommendation to anyone out there who is on the lookout for a new pair of light weight trainer cum racer.

Technology writeups
Introduction Flexion Ride Technology from Saucony. Sinister, a lightweight training shoe, incorporates a flexion plate to naturally propel runners onto their forefoot. The Sinister combines a great fit and responsive cushioning for a more efficient running gait. The injection molded EVA provides shock attenuation, responsive cushioning and durability. The visible rearfoot grid system provides superior cushioning and stability by centering the heel on impact. Breathable, moisture wicking, anti-odor and anti-microbial Ortholite® insole provides improved step-in comfort with rebound properties. The HRC Strobel board increases cushioning and step-in comfort.

Runner's World BEST DEBUT: Saucony Grid Sinister
RW: The new Sinister features a full-length plastic plate in the midsole that provides a smooth transition from heel-strike to toe-off. This design helps move you through the gait cycle more quickly for a more efficient toe-off. The plate and the durable carbon-rubber outsole makes the shoe firm, but the Sinister is not as stiff as you would expect, according to RW Shoe Lab tests. We recommend the Sinister as a racing shoe or trainer for efficient, average-weight runners.
